Word has it that Mike Patton (Faith No More, Tomahawk, Mr. Bungle) has been selected by writer/director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine) to provide the score for The Place Beyond The Pines, which stars Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes.
I was not a fan of Blue Valentine, the film, but I loved the soundtrack by Grizzly Bear. So while I doubt I’ll love the new film, Cianfrance has a flair for dour dramatics, I’ll probably enjoy the soundtrack.
Patton has done a series of scores over the past few years including the Italian drama A Solitude of Prime Numbers, for which he created delicately atmospheric arrangements. It’s a lovely listen reminding me of the Austin instrumental band, My Education, especially the Sunrise record, so I have high hopes for this new project.
Patton is also currently working on a new Tomahawk album with a projected late summer release date.
